The Qatar Stars League, suspended since early March because of the war in the Middle East, will restart on Thursday 12 March. The campaign resumes with matchday 18, which had been postponed last week. Marco Verratti is among those playing in the competition.
According to L'Équipe, authorities have worked with relevant stakeholders to enable the immediate resumption on Thursday after roughly a fortnight without games.
A league protocol has been introduced to safeguard everyone involved, including players, officials and staff. Measures have also been set out for potential emergencies.
League chairman Hani Ballan said the country is living through difficult and unprecedented times, and expressed gratitude for living in one of the world’s safest countries with robust systems to protect people in situations like this.
He stressed that the welfare of players, coaches, executives, medical teams and operational staff remains the top priority, and nothing will be allowed to compromise it.
Ballan added that restarting under strict safety protocols is an important step towards a full return to normality, and he offered wishes of peace and compassion to the region and the world.
