It has been a hectic summer for the R’s, with the Frenchman named as Marti Cifuentes’ permanent successor, and attention has now turned to improving the group.

With Amadou Mbengue and Kwame Poku already through the door, QPR have done some good business, but it’s clear further reinforcements are needed, and bringing in attackers is likely to be the priority.

And, it appears the Londoners are making progress on that front, as Fussball Transfers has revealed that they are in discussions with Schalke for Ba.

The update states that the ‘finish line is already in sight’, indicating that negotiations between the two clubs are going well over the 28-year-old, who only joined the German second division side in January.

It’s unclear what sort of fee would be required for QPR to make this deal, although Ba’s struggles since he moved to Schalke mean they are unlikely to stand in his way if a suitable offer arrives.

Pape Meissa Ba has had a mixed career ahead of potential QPR switch

As outlined above, Ba didn’t have the impact that Schalke would’ve wanted after they signed him from Grenoble in the winter window.

The Senegalese striker managed just two goals in 13 Bundesliga II games, and many of his appearances in the run-in came from the bench.

However, prior to Schalke, Ba had impressed in France, initially with Red Star, and he continued his fine form in the second tier with Grenoble, where he was prolific in his final 18 months before his exit.

Therefore, he has a mixed record, and whilst some fans may be underwhelmed, it should be noted that Ba is a striker who offers more than goals.

At 6ft 2in, he provides a physical presence up front, and Stephan will see him as someone who can link play and bring teammates into the game, and the manager will know all about Ba given his background and knowledge of French football.

From the perspective of the player, it would appear to be a great opportunity to come to English football, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if QPR do finalise a move for Ba, as it is clearly a move that would be risky considering his form over the years.
