Julien Stephan and QPR have a decision to make on the future of winger Kwame Poku this summer after an injury against Swansea City...

QPR have had plenty of bad luck with Kwame Poku since he arrived in June 2025 from Peterborough United, with the winger featuring just 16 times this season.

Hamstring issues hampered his final season with Posh, but the attacker still recorded 12 goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances. Similar issues have held the Ghanaian back this season though, with Poku unable to register a goal involvement in his debut season at Loftus Road.

His 16 games this season for QPR have seen him start just five times, and there was hope that after returning from his last setback in early March, Poku could make it to the end of the season unscathed - that though was seemingly not possible.

Per West London Sport, Julien Stephan has pledged QPR's support for Poku after the winger suffered another injury against Swansea City last week. The 24-year-old may now miss the rest of the season and have to build himself up ahead of pre-season for 2026/27.

The QPR verdict on what is next for Kwame Poku after disappointing debut campaign

Football League World's QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, has shared his thoughts on Poku after just just 29 minutes against Swansea. We asked if this summer is too early for QPR to cut their losses by loaning out or selling him, despite how much game-time he’s missed?

It just hasn’t happened for him this season, and Louis responded to FLW: "It's just so frustrating what has happened to Poku this season. I mean, you could argue he came with risks attached. Obviously, he suffered similar injuries at Peterborough.

"But, regardless, he has played a lot of football for someone his age in the EFL. He has done so, so well. I just don't know what's happened. I don't know if it's bad luck or something or if he's just one of these players who suffers with bad injuries.

"I'm praying it's just bad luck. To come back again and starts a couple games, and you could argue if we should have risked him? But we've got nothing to play for and should we just get him ready for next season? Then he's gone and got injured again.

"But I don't think we should look to get rid of him. I think we've just got to hold on to the hope that he gets fit again and then has a good pre-season. And then we'll see where he goes from the start of next season.

"The hype and excitement when we signed him, thinking if he stayed fit that he could have been a big player this season for us. You're looking at what he did with goals and assists for Peterborough.

"In hindsight, like I say, it might have been better to not play him again this season now, just in case of anything happening, but he's gone and got injured again."

Kwame Poku has the potential to star for QPR under Julien Stephan with a full pre-season under his belt

With Poku's season now looking like it's over, attentions will now have to turn to 2026-27, where he will hopefully get a full pre-season under his belt to recover and strengthen his muscles.

On Poku's potential for QPR in the Championship next season, Louis added: "It's just an absolute write-off of a season for him. Luckily, he is young enough where he can just kick on for next season now. But it's just been disastrous, really.

"He has hardly been a consistent starter. He's come on here and there and I just think the whole entire season for Poku has been a write-off. You just cannot judge anything he's done.

"He's looked lively in some appearances and stuff like that. I've still got high, high hopes. At the end of the day, these injuries haven't ruined him as a player. He's still a top player and he can reach the top level.

"You've just got to hope it doesn't happen again next season, otherwise you will be thinking we've got another Jake Clarke-Salter on our hands here. Fingers crossed not, because if he does stay fit and fire, then he could honestly be one of the best wingers in the league.

"Fingers crossed his fortunes change next season because he could be a simply massive, massive player for us."
