FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his verdict on Arsenal's interest in ex-player Ebere Eze
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Arsenal are pushing to sign Ebere Eze from Crystal Palace this summer, which could have a big impact at QPR.
According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are eyeing a deal for the foward following his strong campaign at Selhurst Park.
Eze scored the winning goal as the Eagles secured their first ever FA Cup triumph, while also contributing eight goals and eight assists from 34 appearances in the Premier League for Oliver Glasner’s side.
It was reported by Sky Sports back in August 2020 that Eze’s move from Loftus Road to Palace also led to a 20 per cent sell-on clause being inserted into the deal.
When asked if Eze could thrive at a club like Arsenal, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed it would be a major achievement for his career.
He believes that Eze was always a big, big talent and is now capable of playing a key role for England, as well as at a top club like the Gunners.
“I think Eze was obviously a special, special player even at the time we had him, and I always knew he was going to go on to do big, big things,” Moir told Football League World.
“Obviously, he’s gone to the Prem, smashed it and it’s not a surprise that he’s had all this interest from big, big clubs as well.
“I mean, if he was to join Arsenal, for him it would be a massive achievement, going from how his career panned out right at the very beginning to making it all the way up to such a massive club.
“For me, obviously seeing him at QPR, he’s up there, he really is up there in terms of ability from the players I’ve seen.
“Technically, just unbelievable.
“He probably developed a lot quicker than a lot of players would, it was rapid really.
“Some of the things he did was just, it was silly really, and you always knew he was going to go on and play for a massive club and that looks likely to happen.
“I always thought he was going to go on to play for England, and for me he needs to become that main no.10 in that England team now, really.
“He’s had a good few appearances for the national team, but now he deserves to be the main man in terms of the attacking creativity in that no.10 role.”
Moir has expressed his disappointment that QPR were unable to do more during Eze’s time at the club, but that he now at least hopes Palace sells the player so that the Hoops can receive 20 per cent of the eventual deal.
“And obviously, for us, if someone buys him from Palace we get that money coming in from Palace as well,” he continued.
“It’s a shame, as a club, we couldn’t achieve more when we had Eze but some of the moments and what he gave us, it was just brilliant, brilliant to watch.
“I always knew he was going to go on to much bigger things, and his ability speaks for itself, and he’s such a humble guy as well, comes across really well off the pitch and that can only help him with his career moving forward.
“But now is the time where he really needs to kick on at a big club and show what he’s really about at this age that he’s at now.
“So yeah, brilliant player, we were lucky to have him, but we were the ones who sort of made him, really, and I don’t think he’ll forget that.
“So fingers crossed, whether it’s Arsenal or another big club come in, he leaves Palace cause we have to get that money coming into the club.”
QPR will get their Championship season underway on 9 August with a home clash against Preston North End.
Eze was a great talent when he was at QPR, and earned a move to the Premier League with a standout campaign in which he contributed 14 goals and eight assists in the Championship.
He has since enjoyed a very strong Premier League career at Palace, although injuries have hurt him over the years.
The 27-year-old has especially thrived under Glasner, and his performances are catching the attention of top clubs.
Any deal will likely be in the region of £60 to potentially even 80 million, which would be extremely lucrative for QPR due to their 20 per cent sell-on clause.
