Adrien Rabiot says he will ‘speak’ with new Milan coach Ruben Amorim after returning from holidays but blames some of his France teammates for their ‘unacceptable behaviour’ in the third-place play-off against England.

Rabiot spoke to the media, including Gazzetta dello Sport, following France’s 6-4 loss to England in the World Cup third-place play-off.

The French had a shocking first half, as England led 4-0 at the break.

“A disgraceful first half, I saw unacceptable behaviour,” Rabiot said.

“We came onto the pitch in what I would call a disgraceful manner. I saw behaviour from certain players that I had never witnessed before. It was disappointing because it was our last chance to make a good impression.

“There was a lot of disappointment after the semi-final against Spain, but there was also a job to finish, and we couldn’t be content with ending it like that,” he continued.

“At half-time, we spoke and told ourselves we needed some pride. The second half was clearly much better because, in the first half, certain behaviours were unacceptable. We would have liked to finish with a win, also for Didier Deschamps and all his staff, but this defeat takes nothing away from what he has achieved over the years.”

Rabiot will go on holiday before starting training with Milan for his second season at San Siro.

“I’m starting again with Milan, of course. Then I’ll speak with the new coach,” he said.

“Before this, I preferred to focus on the World Cup and not be distracted by other matters. The holidays are well-deserved. These have been truly difficult days mentally.”

Milan sacked Massimiliano Allegri after failing to qualify for the Champions League in 2025-26 and hired Ruben Amorim, a former Manchester United boss, as a replacement.

Allegri is on very good terms with Rabiot, having coached him at both Juventus and Milan. The Italian tactician pushed to sign the French midfielder a year ago, and after being sacked by Milan, he has signed a three-year contract with Napoli.
