Racing Santander seal La Liga return after 14 years with Valladolid thrashing | OneFootball

Racing Santander clinched promotion on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Real Valladolid in the 40th round of Liga2.

According to L'Équipe, the victory ends a 14-year absence from the top flight.

With two games remaining, Racing hold a 7-point cushion over Almería and cannot be caught. Almería lost 1-2 to Las Palmas on the same day.

The promotion closes a barren spell that included three relegations to the third tier in 2013, 2015 and 2020. Back in Liga2 since 2022, José Alberto Lopez's side have dominated this season and will contest the 45th top-flight campaign in the club's history.

Deportivo La Coruña, second and level on points with third-placed Almería, can move three points clear at Andorra on Sunday at 14:00, with two matches to play.

The final promotion place will be decided via the play-offs, with Malaga in fourth, Las Palmas fifth, Castellón sixth, Burgos seventh and Eibar eighth all in contention. At the bottom, Real Zaragoza are in serious danger and will be practically relegated to the third tier for the first time in their history if they do not beat Gijon on Sunday at 21:15.
