Rafa Mir and Pablo Jaya went on trial in Valencia on Thursday, accused of sexual assault, with the complainant against Mir giving the first testimony about the night in question.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Fourth Section of the Provincial Court heard the case through the morning and into the afternoon, and both players asked to testify at the end after acknowledging they knew why they were being tried.
The woman recounted events spanning the night of 31 August to 1 September, saying a party began in a VIP area of a Valencia nightclub. She said she did not know who Mir was and only realised during a taxi ride to his home, when he told her he was a footballer.
At Mir’s house in Bétera, she alleged he grabbed her by the arm and took her into a bathroom. Distressed and crying, she said she broke free as a friend, hearing noises, asked what was happening. She left the room in the grip of an anxiety attack.
The complainants and the father of one criticised the Bétera Local Police, telling the court officers downplayed events as merely a punch and failed to take details, which, they said, allowed Mir to give a false identity.
Mir’s accuser said she told him to stop and he did not, that she then sought her phone to call her father but used her friend’s to reach him. The father collected her, said she was quiet on the drive, and learned the fuller account after they left the friend at a health centre. He then contacted a lawyer.
