Rafael Nadal has ruled out a bid for the Real Madrid presidency, moving quickly to quash mounting speculation.
In a post on X, Nadal said reports linking him to a possible candidacy were false.
The rumours gathered pace after Florentino Pérez announced fresh elections at Real Madrid. The club president confirmed on Tuesday he would seek another term while leaving the door open to challengers.
Speculation had also focused on Nadal’s friendship with businessman Enrique Riquelme, head of energy group Cox, with whom he has several sporting partnerships. Riquelme has often been portrayed as a potential rival to Pérez.
Nadal, a multiple Roland Garros winner and former world number one, is a long-time Madridista. He has been an honorary socio since 2011 and is a regular in the Bernabeu’s presidential box. He has no plans to stand.
