Union Berlin were offered the chance to sign Raheem Sterling after his Chelsea exit.

The 31-year-old had his contract at Chelsea terminated by mutual consent earlier this week. His representatives have been seeking a new club since.

“In every transfer window, you’re confronted with names that make you rub your eyes. In this case, it just wasn’t serious, so we didn’t move forward,” he told Sky Germany.

Horst Heldt, Union’s managing director for professional football, confirmed the approach.

Sterling was reportedly earning €375,000 per week at Chelsea.
