Palmeiras resumed training on Monday after a rest day following the 3-0 win over Flamengo at the Maracanã. Ramón Sosa stepped up with on-pitch physical transition work at the Academia de Futebol. Paulinho did recovery work and was not on the grass, as he remains under a minutes restriction.
According to Globo.com, both the player and the club hope he can return before the World Cup pause, with the aim of including him against Junior Barranquilla on Thursday in the Conmebol Libertadores.
Sosa sustained a ligament injury to his left ankle against Cruzeiro and missed the last two matches. The club’s health and performance unit judged that surgery was not required.
Bruno Fuchs, Vitor Roque and Benedetti carried out specific physiotherapy indoors at the training centre. Piquerez has travelled to Uruguay to finish his ankle surgery recovery with the national team.
The starters from the Flamengo match followed standard post-game recovery and stayed off the pitch. The rest of the squad worked in small-sided drills at the Academia de Futebol. Abel Ferreira has three more sessions before facing Junior Barranquilla.
Palmeiras need a win to qualify for the Libertadores last 16 and keep alive hopes of topping Group F. Kick-off is at 19:00 at Allianz Parque.
