Rangers are interested in signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer before next Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam.

They have also been linked with Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi. Rangers have offered around €3.6 million and a sell-on clause for him, but the German club do not want to lose him.

Rangers are now looking at other options before the transfer deadline. Leeds United striker Joel Piroe is also on their radar, but he is an unrealistic target.

Archer has scored four goals in 23 games for the Saints this season after notching five goals in 40 appearances last term.

The 24-year-old had earlier loan spells at Preston North End and Middlesbrough and would be a welcome addition to Rangers’ squad.

However, Southampton are hoping to secure a return to the Premier League and may be unwilling to lose a key player.

Rangers are desperate to get a deal for a new striker over the line before the deadline to boost their chances of pipping Hearts and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.

They are just four points behind league leaders Hearts after 23 matches and need more firepower to boost their hopes of clinching top spot.
