Bayer Leverkusen’s search for a new head coach is widening, with candidates from Rangers, Crystal Palace and Girona linked in recent days amid uncertainty over Kasper Hjulmand and with Fabian Hürzeler no longer available.
FußballTransfers.com reports that Rangers boss Danny Röhl is on the shortlist for the summer. The 37-year-old from Zwickau has never coached in Germany’s top three divisions.
Sport BILD claims that, if success is the sole focus, Oliver Glasner is considered the leading option, and Leverkusen have already discussed him on several occasions. Both parties are said to know each other well, though the hierarchy reportedly note that Glasner is unafraid of internal battles with the board.
Sport BILD has also added Míchel of Girona as a third candidate. The 50-year-old is not set to extend his expiring contract.
Ajax Amsterdam are also interested in Míchel, but he reportedly prefers a move to a top club in England or Germany’s top flight.
Míchel was a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso last year, and talks took place then. Contact has reportedly remained since.
