Rangers ‘Unlikely’ to Sign SPL Star Despite Reports of a Medical

Well, here we are. The window has officially opened and Rangers, true to form, have not signed anyone of note yet. In fact, the only confirmed arrival is Dundee’s Lyle Cameron, and even that one feels a bit underwhelming given the volume of names the club have been linked with.

One of those names was Cameron’s former Dundee team-mate Josh Mulligan, who had supposedly been lined up for a medical with the club. But those whispers appear to have fizzled out entirely. Sources close to Ibrox suggest no medical ever actually took place, and while we can’t verify that independently, the fact there’s been radio silence on him since suggests that rumour’s gone stone cold.

And with that, we’ve now seen yet another early interest bite the dust — just like the reported move for Ipswich’s Cameron Burgess, which seems to have died just as quietly. The pattern is a familiar one for Rangers fans: early links, sudden excitement, then nothing. We saw it last summer too — interest in a raft of players that never materialised, only for us to eventually end up with uninspired additions like Jefte and Nsiala. That went well, didn’t it?

So far, Cameron is the only player through the door, and while he may turn out to be a decent addition, it’s hardly the statement of intent fans were hoping for. Mulligan might not have been a blockbuster name, but the lack of any movement at all is what’s raising concern.

To be fair, it is only the first Monday of the open window, and clubs don’t tend to do all their business in week one. But the Mulligan deal now appears to be dead in the water, and whether that’s a blessing or a missed opportunity, only time will tell.

For now, it’s as you were — Rangers with one new face and a long list of names that probably won’t be arriving. Just like last year.
