Rangers and Aberdeen go head-to-head in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, in a key Matchday 31 encounter as the league season moves into its decisive phase.
Rangers come into this fixture with a largely settled core, but there remain some absentees in Danny Rohl’s squad.
Centre-back Derek Cornelius has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on a muscle injury in late November. Despite beginning light training, he is expected to remain out and is not in contention to start against Aberdeen.
Mohamed Diomande and Bailey Rice are both sidelined as well, and both of them are expected to return after the international break.
Rangers are expected to start with the same lineup after their recent win, with Youssef Chermiti leading the line once again.
James Tavernier, who ranks first in big chances created in the competition this season in the Scottish Premiership, will once again look to make an impact for the benefit of the team.
Aberdeen travel to Glasgow looking to cause an upset, but their options are also shaped by fitness concerns and form across the squad.
Mats Knoester, Kristers Tobers, and Nick Suman are sidelined and are not expected to come back before late March.
Tom McIntyre is also out, and it will take another couple of weeks before he can return to the pitch.
Nicky Devlin, the Scottish defender, is also suffering from a knee injury and will be back in April.
Lyall Cameron is also unavailable to play this match as he is ineligible to face his parents’ club.
Danny Rohl’s men sit third in the standings on 60 points heading into Matchday 31. They are just three points adrift of league leaders Hearts and one point behind second-placed Celtic, making this match and the upcoming fixtures crucial for the title.
Rangers are also unbeaten in their last 13 matches in the league in December, and they haven’t lost against Aberdeen in their last five head-to-head encounters.
Aberdeen are winless in their last seven league games, with their most recent outing being a 1-1 draw against Falkirk. Before that, they lost to lower division league team Dunfermline Athletic 0-3 in the Scottish FA Cup.
They are currently sitting in ninth position in the league with 30 points from 30 matches.
