Rangers aim to book their place in the next round of the Scottish Cup when they host League Two outfit Annan Athletic at Ibrox on Friday night.
The home side arrive in Glasgow’s south side riding a five-match winning streak in all competitions and will be determined to extend that run as their cup campaign gets underway in the fourth round.
Danny Röhl will again have to cope without a clutch of important first‑team players as injuries continue to bite into his squad options. The Rangers head coach has confirmed that Bailey Rice, Connor Barron, Derek Cornelius, Dujon Sterling and Nedim Bajrami are all ruled out of contention for the visit of Annan.
Barron, who has quickly become a key figure in midfield, faces a spell of around eight to twelve weeks on the sidelines after sustaining knee ligament damage in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over his former club Aberdeen. Sterling, meanwhile, is nursing a hamstring problem picked up in the same match and is expected to remain unavailable for a further two to three weeks.
Off the pitch, Rangers have been proactive in strengthening the squad during the January window as Röhl looks to build depth for the title race and domestic cups.
Tochi Chukwuani was the first arrival, the Danish midfielder joining from Sturm Graz for an initial fee in the region of £4.3m plus add-ons, bringing with him valuable European and Champions League experience. The Ibrox club then moved to bolster the left side of defence by securing 22‑year‑old full-back Tuur Rommens from Westerlo in a deal worth over £3m on 14 January.
Rangers have also reached an agreement with Wolfsburg to sign Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent included in the deal.
Possible Rangers starting XI: Kelly; Tavernier, Souttar, Djiga, Aarons; Raskin, Diomande; Matondo, Dowell, Moore; Chermiti
The match will kick off at 7:45pm BST on Friday, 16th January.
Supporters unable to get to Ibrox will still be able to follow the action live, with full coverage of the fourth‑round tie available on Premier Sports 2.
