The Blues have made some shocking additions over the years.

Kyogo Furuhashi has become the latest flop to leave Birmingham City after completing a move to LA Galaxy.

The Japan international arrived in the West Midlands from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennes last summer after a failed spell in France and endured another torrid stint at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

In his only season for the Blues, the centre-forward yielded just one league goal, and while he did manage two in the cups, his time with the club was extremely underwhelming.

But where does the 31-year-old rank in Birmingham's worst-ever signings? Here, FLW ranks the club's top seven most dismal acquisitions.

Younger Birmingham City supporters will not remember Mike Newell, but many older fans may have forgotten that he ever played for the club given the minimal impact he made.

The Blues paid Blackburn Rovers £750,000 for the frontman in 1996, but he managed just one league goal in 15 league appearances before selling him a year later to Aberdeen for less than a quarter of the price.

Another forward who struggled in front of goal was Kevin Francis, who suffered in his three seasons with Birmingham in the mid-90s.

While he did bag four goals in six appearances in the Blues' 95/96 EFL Cup campaign, he only managed two league goals in 41 league appearances.

The most talented player on the list is Alexsandr Hleb, who arrived with significant pedigree before his surprise loan move to the Blues from Barcelona in 2010.

Hleb was a hit at Arsenal during his three years with the club but failed to make much of an impact at Barcelona and endured the same fate in the West Midlands, scoring one Premier League goal in a below-par spell.

While he did have a fruitless spell with Stade Rennes, there was still some hope that the Japan international would be a hit with Birmingham, considering his goal record with Celtic.

The striker netted 85 goals in 165 appearances for the Bhoys but managed just one league goal at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, and was omitted from the squad altogether at the end of last season before signing for LA Galaxy.

Another player who has ended up playing in the United States is Tyler Blackett, whose career has spiralled into nothingness despite early potential.

Blackett came through Manchester United's academy and spent six months on loan with Birmingham City in the 13/14 season but was uninspiring in his eight appearances for the club.

Costly by name, Costly by nature, the Blues paid £500,000 to loan Honduras international Carlos Costly from Polish club GKS Bełchatów, and they will wish they never bothered.

The centre-forward made just eight appearances during his short-term loan in the 08/09 campaign, but he failed to find the back of the net once.
