Crysencio Summerville says a World Cup meeting with Brazil could reunite him with ex-Leeds teammate Raphinha, though the Netherlands newcomer dreams most of facing idol Neymar.
The West Ham winger received his first senior call-up this summer, debuted in a friendly defeat to Algeria, then opened his account with a curling strike in the 2-2 draw with Japan.
Raphinha is at his second World Cup, having not scored in Qatar and playing a minor role in last week’s 1-1 draw with Morocco. The former Leeds pair, sold for £83million combined, could meet in the knockouts.
“I love watching football, seeing how everyone plays, and discovering new tactics. The nice thing is that we do that as a team, together. Even back then, I was already watching clips of him [Neymar] on YouTube. Playing against him would truly be a boyhood dream; he is my idol. And yes, then I also run into Raphinha. No, he hasn’t called me yet after my goal against Japan.” He was speaking to Voetbal International.
Summerville has started on the right for the Netherlands and faces Sweden on Saturday evening, which could see him come up against current Whites squad member Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Sweden top Group F after thumping Tunisia 5-1, a result that saw Sabri Lamouchi sacked. Any result for Gudmundsson’s side would edge them towards the knockouts before facing Ao Tanaka’s Japan.
