Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund has rediscovered his goalscoring form for SSC Napoli in recent weeks.

Decent start to Italy return

The Dane played for Atalanta BC before moving to Old Trafford in 2023.

After two relatively unsuccessful years at Manchester United, he was sent on loan to Napoli last summer.

Hojlund has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 18 matches this season across all competitions.

Nonetheless, with Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko in the summer and reportedly looking to make a winter move for Antoine Semenyo, it seems Hojlund does not have a potential future in Manchester.

Obligation to buy

The striker was in great form on Thursday night as he scored a goal in Napoli’s 2-0 win over AC Milan in the Italian Supercoppa semi-final.

The deal agreed for Hojlund’s transfer at present is a £38 million buy option that becomes a mandatory obligation if Napoli qualify for the Champions League next season.

With the current Serie A champions in third place at present, this looks a distinct possibility.

Convinced everyone

Nonetheless, Napoli may not even have to qualify for the Champions League for the deal to go through.

Calciomercato report that, “the Danish striker has convinced everyone, from De Laurentiis to Conte, and can now stay at Napoli on a permanent basis.”

The buyout price is seen as “affordable” for the Italians and “the Danish striker can be considered a new Napoli player, with Napoli already offering him a contract until 2031, to be signed at the end of the season.”

In the summer, there were some difficulties in convincing Hojlund that his time as a Manchester United player was over, but now he “is happy” in Naples and “has no doubts about his desire to stay.”

Hojlund will next be in action on Monday night when Napoli attempt to win the first trophy of the season against Bologna in the Supercoppa final.
