Rasmus Hojlund: United offer striker to Euro giants despite Napoli’s bid to seal deal

Rasmus Hojlund is expected to leave Manchester United this summer, having failed to hit top form at the Theatre of Dreams.

When United pulled off his £73 million signing from Atalanta, the hope was that he would be the cure to their goalscoring woes. But he never quite became that player.

Across 62 Premier League appearances, Hojlund managed just 14 goals, a return so underwhelming that change felt inevitable.

Some would argue that change arrived with the £74 million swoop for Benjamin Sesko, a deal that saw United beat Newcastle to one of the Bundesliga’s brightest talents.

Sesko’s arrival was, in many ways, the final nail in the coffin for Hojlund’s United career. With the Slovenian in, the 22-year-old was allegedly told he would be better off seeking a move, with game time clearly set to be limited.

Still, Hojlund remained adamant that he wanted to fight for his place under Ruben Amorim. But his omission from the matchday squad in United’s Premier League opener against Arsenal made it painfully clear: staying was no longer a viable option.

Italy calling

Fortunately for the Dane, interest from Serie A was strong. AC Milan, Atalanta, and Napoli all entered the race for his signature.

Initially, it looked like a three-horse Italian chase, but Milan pivoted to Victor Boniface, while Atalanta are yet to make a concrete move.

Napoli, however, have remained the most serious suitor. Antonio Conte’s side have been pushing hard to seal the deal, working to find an agreement with both United and the player.

Bayern come up in Hojlund exit talk

Then came a twist from Germany, as Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg dropped an intriguing claim about the striker.

“Rasmus Hojlund has been and continues to be offered to FC Bayern on loan. The option is on the table, but Bayern have not bitten yet and are exploring other possibilities,” Plettenberg reported.

“Napoli are concretely working on a loan deal for Hojlund. The player’s camp expects that a decision will take a few more days.”

United’s dual-track strategy, offering Hojlund to Bayern while Napoli pushes hard, would raise eyebrows.

It could be a ploy to nudge Napoli into meeting their demands. Or perhaps INEOS believe Bayern would offer a better platform for Hojlund to rediscover his mojo and boost his value ahead of next summer.

If Vincent Kompany’s Bayern were to take the plunge, it could be a dream scenario for the Dane, learning under Harry Kane, developing in a system built for attacking flair. What an opportunity that would be.
