Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Midtjylland have agreed terms on the transfer of Rasmus Kristensen, with the Danish international heading back home for the new season.

Rasmus Kristensen first came to Frankfurt on loan from Leeds United in summer 2024 and quickly established himself as a regular on the right side of defence, playing a significant role in the club qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. After a successful first season, the 34-time Danish international had his transfer made permanent. The now 28-year-old went on to make 71 appearances for Eintracht, but has now decided to return home for family reasons, and will be going back to FC Midtjylland – the club where he launched his successful career via the youth system – ahead of the 2026/27 season. “Rasmus came to us and told us of his wish to return home,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “As well as being a very good footballer, he’s also a family man for whom it is very important to be close to his family. It was not easy to let him go, but we had no desire to prevent him from fulfilling his wish and agreed to his departure once we had negotiated with Midtjylland. We would like to thank Rasmus for his commitment and wish him all the best for the future in his sporting and his personal life.”

“I felt at home in Frankfurt right from day one and was really made to feel welcome both by the club and the fans,” said Kristensen. “I had a fantastic time here both on and off the pitch, and it’s one that I’ll never forget. My son was born here in Frankfurt and that is something that will always connect us with this fantastic city. It’s bittersweet to be leaving Eintracht – I’ve really come to love the club. But at the same time, I want to be much closer to my family again and continue my career back home. I’d really like to thank the management, who have supported me and who are now giving me the opportunity to return to Denmark. A big thank-you also goes to the Eintracht fans, who have shown me a lot of love over the past two years. I’d like to wish everyone here all the best for the future!”
