Raymond Domenech has condemned a new Netflix documentary on France’s 2010 World Cup strike, accusing it of sensational treatment and hostile bias. He said in a statement posted on social media on Thursday that his words were mishandled.
Following its release on Netflix, Le bus, les Bleus en grève revisits the Knysna scandal. Domenech, France coach from 2004 to 2010, argues the 80-minute film amounts to an aggressive indictment of him and is completely one sided.
He said he feels hurt and betrayed, adding he would never have approved such a version. He also pointed to a change of director during production, which he believes produced an outcome designed to provoke.
The documentary recounts how the squad went on strike in South Africa after Nicolas Anelka was excluded during the 2010 tournament, a crisis that shook French football.
In the film Domenech opens up and allows full publication of his personal diary. Its entries include stinging assessments of several former players, including Thierry Henry, Yoann Gourcuff, William Gallas and Nicolas Anelka.
