Sport Bild – as relayed by transfermarkt.de – reports that RB Leipzig are demanding a win from head coach Ole Werner in this weekend’s Bundesliga fixture against Hamburg. Pressure mounts on the 37-year-old after just three wins in eight 2026 league matches leaves Leipzig’s goal of returning to the Champions League in danger.
Werner’s team found themselves unable to close out victories in their last two league games against Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund. In both cases, blown leads resulted in 2-2 draws for the Saxony based club. Leipzig seek to return to the top four after missing out on all European football for the first time in their entire history of German top flight football.
A massive summer spending spree handed Werner the third most valuable squad in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich and Dortmund. Despite this, Werner has managed an average of just 1.85 points through 27 matches across all competitions this season. The German Red Bulls must qualify for Europa via the table, having recently been eliminated from the DFB Pokal.
Captain David Raum remains wholly dissatisfied with the manner in which the team cannot perform consistently. Werner’s work with the defense (on both a personnel and basic training level) has come under criticism. Failure to win against Hamburg in tomorrow’s match-day 24 Bunesliga capper would leave the team winless in four matches across all competitions.
According to the Sport Bild report, Leipzig management will begin having serious conversations about Werner’s future if the team slips up again. Brought in this simmer to replace deposed Leipzig native Marco Rose after a spring 2025 sacking, Werner was never the club’s first choice to run the team.
