According to L’Équipe, RB Leipzig have offered a contract extension to French defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu (20) following a promising first full season in Germany. The former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back is currently under contract until 2028 but has been proposed a new deal running through 2029, along with a salary increase.
Bitshiabu, 20, made 28 appearances across all competitions this season (21 in the Bundesliga, 4 in the Champions League, 3 in the DFB-Pokal), establishing himself under both Marco Rose and Zsolt Löw after a difficult debut campaign marred by a knee ligament injury.
Having joined Leipzig in 2023, the left-footed defender has grown into a key squad member at a club that finished 7th in the Bundesliga. Though Leipzig will not feature in Europe next season, the club remain committed to Bitshiabu’s development.
Speaking to the club’s official media earlier this year, the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges native expressed his contentment: “From the start, they gave me time to develop. Nobody puts pressure on me. The club believes in my strength, and I believe in theirs.”
Now fluent in English and progressing in German, Bitshiabu has reportedly settled well into life in Germany, living with his parents and siblings. Other European clubs reportedly remain attentive, and a summer approach cannot be ruled out.GFFN | George Boxall
