The summer break is almost over. Most of the squad will report back to Cottaweg on Saturday and Sunday, with the Red Bulls’ training centre hosting the usual round of performance tests before work on the pitch officially gets under way on Monday.

The players will undergo a detailed check-in at the start of pre-season. Alongside the sporting assessments, the programme includes medical examinations and checks on fitness levels, load capacity and the players’ physical condition after the break.

Those results will give the coaching and support staff an important basis for the weeks ahead as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.

Koné and Reitz involved at Cottaweg for the first time

Abdoul Koné and Rocco Reitz will be part of the group this weekend. The two new signings will complete their first performance tests at Cottaweg and get the chance to meet their new teammates while familiarising themselves with the setup at the club.

The World Cup contingent will follow a little later. David Raum, Assan Ouédraogo, Nicolas Seiwald, Yan Diomande and Lutsharel Geertruida are expected back at Cottaweg at the end of July. Antonio Nusa, meanwhile, is still in the World Cup quarter-finals with Norway, who face England, so his return to Leipzig will depend on how deep his tournament run goes.

First friendly in Markranstädt

Leo Zingerle has already taken the first step. The goalkeeper was the first senior player back at the Red Bulls’ training centre on Wednesday and will work individually over the coming days.

The rest of the group will follow on Monday, when RBL officially begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign under new head coach Martín Demichelis.

RBL’s first pre-season friendly follows on Saturday, 18th July 2026, with the Red Bulls taking on VSG Altglienicke in Markranstädt at 14:00 CEST. Tickets for the game are available here.
