The ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga match against SK Sturm Graz, relocated to Deutschlandsberg due to the bad weather, had everything a football match should have: goals, despair, excitement, moments of brilliance – and a sensational late comeback for our FC Red Bull Salzburg Women! The spectacular 5-5 draw keeps the race for the championship group wide open.

Match summary

With goalkeeper Michaela Fischer and ten other players who had taken our team into the ÖFB Women's Cup semi-final last week, we made a bright start only to suffer an early blow. Sturm countered down the right flank, and striker Kustrin received the ball in space – as we were 0-1 down (3').

Our team wasn't fazed. Sara Grabovac played a through ball, Vina Crnoja took possession, and promptly chipped us level (13'). As one would expect from a match between fourth and fifth place, the teams were evenly matched, but two corner kicks gave the Black and Whites a two-goal cushion. First, Spieß headed home (22'), then Kustrin finished with a powerful shot on the turn (45+1), putting us 1-3 down at the end of the first half.

Only the half-time whistle could halt the end-to-end action action. After the break, the game continued at the same pace: Emelie Kobler - after captain Lucia Orkic initiated the move by brilliantly winning the ball - calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Krammer (52'). While Brandl restored the two-goal lead, once again after a corner, with the ball falling to her foot in the six-yard box (60'), Kustrin completed her hat-trick: an offside position went unpunished, and after the ensuing throw-in, the striker reacted quickest (63').

A remarkable comeback then ensued. Julia Grünwald placed the ball into the top right corner for 3-5 (68') – then substitute Tina Krassnig conjured up some magic, expertly setting herself up with her left foot before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner (90'). In a nerve-wracking final phase, Christina Gierzinger had the last word. The former Sturm Graz player slipped behind her marker, took control of the ball… and sealed the dramatic point (90+2')!

Given the four goals conceded from set pieces, the training focus for our team in the coming weeks seems to be already set in stone, but more importantly, this memorable match, which probably didn't deserve a loser, ended in a draw.

Wow, what an incredible game! We fell behind due to some very unlucky circumstances. But we absolutely dominated the second half and thoroughly deserved this draw. We finished it really well, and I'm very proud of the girls. This gives us a huge boost for the rest of the league season.
