Sébastien Desabre, head coach of DR Congo, spoke out following the high-stakes clash against Senegal.
At the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa this Tuesday, the Leopards of DRC bowed to the Lions of Senegal. Yet it was the Leopards who drew first blood in this fierce contest. They took a 2-0 lead before being caught and ultimately defeated in the closing minutes of the match. Facing the press, Sébastien Desabre did not hide his disappointment. "It's a disappointment considering how the game unfolded. It was a big match, just as we expected. Unfortunately, it didn't go our way, even though we had a two-goal advantage. There were plenty of chances for both us and Senegal. But in the end, they scored one more goal than we did," analyzed the coach.
The coach went on to admit that the tactical approach of the opposition caused his team problems: "The balance of power imposed by Senegal forced us to drop deeper in this match. We started with a low block, and even had to adapt in order to win the ball back, but it was tough."
Sébastien Desabre is already looking ahead to the upcoming October fixtures. "We need to look at what went wrong and prepare for the next games against Togo and Sudan. I have nothing to reproach my players for. When there's a bad result, you have to look at the coach and take responsibility. We'll analyze everything and keep moving forward towards qualification, because it's not over. We're second, and we have to keep believing until the end." he concluded.
