Stopper Llorente, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Real Betis’ La Liga meeting with Villarreal over the weekend.

En route to a 2-1 defeat for Manuel Pellegrini’s troops, the former Leeds United man was hooked from proceedings, with a muscular problem.

Post-match, it was revealed that Llorente had suffered ‘an advanced proximal tendon injury in his left hamstring’.

As much culminated in the 31-year-old being forced under the knife, in an advanced procedure in Finland on Thursday morning.

And an update on his wellbeing has since been provided.

As per Dr. José Manuel Álvarez Casado, head of medical services at Real Betis, in quotes sourced by Mundo Deportivo:

‘Diego Llorente underwent surgery today in Finland by Dr. Lempainen. Everything went well, without incident or problems. I’ve been speaking with the player, and he’s feeling well. He has had both tendons that had been torn in his left hamstring reattached. If there are no surgical problems, he will return to Seville tomorrow.’

Dr. Álvarez Casado continued:

“Recovery will take around four months.”
