Bernardo Silva was everywhere as Manchester City won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night, while Antonio Rüdiger hurt Real Madrid by conceding a needless penalty.
L'Équipe rated the City captain Bernardo Silva and Nico Gonzalez at 7. Rodrygo also scored 7, Jude Bellingham 6, Phil Foden and Ruben Dias 4, Gonzalo Garcia and Rüdiger 3.
Foden was booked in the 11th minute and rarely recovered his rhythm. Rodrygo struck on 28 minutes to end a barren run of nine months and 32 matches, then he laid on clear chances at 51 and 77. Bellingham almost levelled on 51 minutes but lifted his effort too high.
Silva covered the pitch, harried the ball carrier and constantly offered himself, even if he lost out to Carreras on the opener. Gonzalez impressed with his positioning and calm, using the ball cleanly. Dias showed nerves, lacked authority in duels and left Josko Gvardiol to tidy up, while his passing stayed cautious.
Foden was withdrawn on 70 for Reijnders after an off-colour display, a shadow of his weekend showing in the 3-0 win over Sunderland. Garcia, handed the daunting task of replacing Kylian Mbappé, barely saw the ball and was replaced by Arda Güler on 58. Rüdiger had contained Erling Haaland in recent meetings, yet he did not convince here.
