Real Madrid are beginning to rethink their entire defensive planning after concerns surrounding Eder Militao and his physical condition following another serious injury setback.
The Brazilian defender, who has already endured two cruciate ligament injuries in recent years, is expected to be unavailable for around five months after suffering a hamstring injury.
This situation has triggered a major concern within the team in terms of future squad planning, reports AS.
Only a short time ago, signing a new central defender was viewed as something important but not immediate. That position, however, has now changed dramatically.
Militao’s latest setback has increased fears that the defender may never fully recover the same explosiveness, physical dominance and reliability he showed before suffering serious knee injuries in both legs.
While Real Madrid still trust the Brazilian, there is growing uncertainty over whether his body can continue handling the demands of elite football consistently.

As a result, the board are now accelerating discussions regarding the arrival of at least one high-level centre-back in the short term.
The concern becomes even greater when considering the long-term future of Antonio Rudiger.
The German defender remains a crucial figure, but uncertainty over a future contract renewal means Madrid could soon require not just one new defender, but potentially two.
According to the outlet, the club is analysing multiple solutions and one path involves increasing trust in academy talent, with highly-rated youngster Joan Martinez continuing to receive enormous backing behind the scenes.
At the same time, Madrid are also closely monitoring the progress of Jacobo Ramon during his spell at Como.
Reports suggest the defender could potentially return for a relatively low figure below €10 million, making him an attractive market opportunity.

Despite the internal options available, Real Madrid need to secure a proven top-level centre-back capable of becoming one of the leaders of the next generation.
Several profiles have reportedly been discussed over recent months, but one name that continues to stand out above the rest is Ibrahima Konate.
The Liverpool defender remains an attractive option because of both his age profile and contractual situation.
His current deal expires in June and, as things stand, no renewal agreement has yet been finalised.
That situation has naturally alerted Real Madrid and they might study this option as Militao focuses on his fitness.
