Spain's Supreme Court has refused to admit Real Madrid's appeal in the case over concerts at the Bernabéu. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the decision does not settle whether shows can be held, it keeps the proceedings alive in Madrid courts.
The dispute began when the Asociación Vecinal de Perjudicados por el Bernabéu asked the Ayuntamiento de Madrid to clarify whether stadium redevelopment licences also covered music events. The neighbours argue the planning scheme and linked permits do not authorise such shows, and they turned to the courts after an unfavourable reply.
Madrid’s Juzgado de lo Contencioso-Administrativo número 31 initially declined to examine the association’s challenge. It said the city’s response was not open to appeal in those terms, and noted that authorising extraordinary events falls to the Comunidad de Madrid.
The association appealed to the Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Madrid, which ruled the lower court should admit the case and assess the substance. Real Madrid then went to the Supreme Court, which rejected the club’s bid, so the matter returns to Court número 31.
That court must now decide whether the city acted properly and if the stadium’s licences and planning framework allow concerts. It is a procedural win for the neighbours, while the central question remains unresolved.
Real Madrid said in a statement that the Supreme Court has not ruled on the legality of Bernabéu concerts, and that today’s step is purely procedural, so the association’s case will continue before the competent court. The club added there is no judgment declaring concerts at the stadium unlawful, and noted the Bernabéu follows the same authorisation regime as other major venues such as the Metropolitano.
