In a recent post on X, journalist Sacha Tavolieri mentioned that Real Madrid are among the clubs hoping to land Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are facing stiff competition from Arsenal and Al-Hilal in the race to land the French centre-back this summer.

Jacquet’s Impressive Rise In French Football

Jacquet has caught the eye with his performances at the heart of Rennes’ backline in the previous campaign. The 20-year-old has earned one assist in 14 appearances for the French club so far across all competitions.

The talented youngster has been a solid presence inside his half as he made 26 tackles, 9 blocks and 27 interceptions in Ligue 1. He even distributed the ball accurately from the back after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Rennes will run out in the summer of 2029. Therefore, Real Madrid would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing Jacquet in this transfer window.

Should Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso Go For Jacquet?

Jacquet is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the French talent is a strong presence in the air as well. Jacquet is primarily a centre-back but can also play as a right-back if required. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to win the race for his services.

At 20, Jacquet has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. He would no doubt enhance the quality of Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso’s backline in the long run. The French whizkid is already good enough to serve as a decent player in Real Madrid’s squad.

Jacquet might even help the Madrid giants challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Alonso to go for a player of his potential before the end of this summer transfer window.
