Real Madrid have plenty of reasons to be satisfied with Liverpool’s latest signing.

While the Premier League side has secured the services of Victor Munoz, the deal has also generated a significant financial boost for the Spanish giants.

According to Mario Cortegana, speaking on Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel, Real Madrid are particularly pleased with how the operation has unfolded.

Thanks to clauses negotiated when Munoz left the Santiago Bernabeu, the club is set to receive around €26 million without having to reintegrate the player into the squad.

A major win for Real Madrid

Liverpool recently completed the signing of Munoz from Osasuna after activating the winger’s €40 million release clause.

The structure of the deal is particularly important for Real Madrid.

Under the agreement reached when Munoz joined Osasuna, half of any future release clause payment would return to the Spanish giants.

As a result, Liverpool’s decision to trigger the full clause immediately guarantees €20 million for Real Madrid.

That payment comes on top of the €6 million already received when the winger originally departed the Bernabeu.

Once all parts of the transaction are included, the club expects to collect approximately €26 million from the player’s journey away from Madrid.

Why Real Madrid did not re-sign Munoz

One of the more interesting details surrounding the operation involves a buyback clause negotiated during Munoz’s move to Osasuna.

Real Madrid had the option to bring the Spanish winger back for just €8 million.

However, the club chose not to activate that clause despite monitoring his development.

The reasoning is that the squad is already packed with attacking talent, while several young players are also pushing for opportunities.

Bringing Munoz back would have created additional competition without guaranteeing him meaningful playing time.

Instead of spending money on a player who would face a difficult path into the first team, Real Madrid allowed events to take their course and watched Liverpool make their move.

Importantly, though, while the buyback clause has now expired, Los Blancos still retain a right of first refusal, ensuring they remain informed should Munoz become available again in the future.
