Real Madrid believe superstar forward might need to undergo surgery for knee issue | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappe’s injury-enforced absence has become a concern for Real Madrid. The French international had suffered a knee injury back in December but was rushed back to play at the Spanish Super Cup.

Since then, the 27-year-old kept on playing through pain and discomfort, which came back to bite him last week as he was unable to carry on training and withdrew from training before the Benfica match.

Mbappe ended up missing the game against the Portuguese outfit, will not be available tonight against Getafe, and is expected to be out for the next two matches vs Celta Vigo and Manchester City as well.

Surgery for Mbappe?

Previous reports had suggested that Mbappe would be opting for conservative treatment on his knee instead of surgery.

However, now, according to Jorge C Picon on ElDesmarque, some figures within Real Madrid are advocating that Mbappe undergo surgery sooner rather than later in order to resolve the knee problems he has been carrying for months.

If he were to have the operation, the France captain would extend his time out of action, something he currently prefers to avoid.

The journalist further reports that Mbappe pushed himself at a time when he should have considered stopping.

At the same time, he also claims that there was a mistake from the medical staff in diagnosing the knee injury, which meant the megastar ended up playing some games when he should have been rested, leading to the aggravating of his condition.

As such, there are people within the club who believe the best solution is surgery. It would not be a very invasive intervention, but it would keep him away from the pitch for a little longer.

Mbappe, for his part, is keen on not going down that route. As reported earlier today, he is unhappy with the Real Madrid medical staff’s handling of the issue and is flying to France for a second opinion.

It remains to be seen which course of action that the superstar forward and Real Madrid decide to take in the coming days.
