Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric spoke about the significance of his team’s dramatic comeback against Valencia at Mestalla, which saw them take the lead in La Liga.
According to Modric, the victory was a crucial one, with the potential to propel Carlo Ancelotti’s team towards winning titles by the end of the season.
Real Madrid’s performance, especially in the second half, stood out to Modric. Despite a series of setbacks, including an unlucky penalty and a goal that was just ruled offside, the team never gave up.
Modric reflected on the resilience shown, noting that they kept fighting and turned around what had initially seemed like a challenging match.
“We never stopped believing, we never gave up and we managed to turn around a very difficult match.
“We were much better in the second half despite being unlucky after the penalty and the goal that was narrowly disallowed, but we kept fighting to turn around a very important match,” said the midfielder as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
The victory at Mestalla, Modric explained, could be the kind of result that leads to success in the long run, provided the team keeps pushing forward.
“These are victories that mean a lot and that can lead you to win titles at the end of the year. Hopefully that will be the case,” he added.

What really impressed Modric was the team’s fighting spirit, particularly after losing a player, Vinicius, due to a red card.
The squad’s ability to come together and rise to the challenge in difficult moments was a testament to their character.
He highlighted that Real Madrid’s culture is built on perseverance and never giving up, which they demonstrated clearly in this match.
“When things get tough, we show our character, faith and fight, everything the club teaches you to never give up.”
While he admitted that they would prefer to win more comfortably, these hard-fought victories give the players confidence, showing them that they have the determination to win even under tough circumstances.
“We’ve experienced many nights like this and it’s great when you win like this, although we would like to win games sooner and play better, but when you know you can win like this it gives you tremendous confidence.”
Looking ahead, Modric acknowledged that there is still room for improvement, but he was pleased with the current position of the team in La Liga.
Although the season is still young, being at the top of the table after a tough start provides motivation.
A month ago, the team found itself in a difficult situation, but now, with Real Madrid in the lead, Modric emphasized the importance of continuing to improve and maintain their momentum as the season progresses.
“It’s early days but it’s nice to be leaders. Looking back a month we were in a difficult situation and now we are leaders, with one more game but we have to keep going. We have to improve,” he noted.
