Real Madrid closed Marc Cucurella deal inside 48 hours after Jose Mourinho intervention | OneFootball

On Sunday, it was confirmed that Real Madrid had agreed a deal to sign Chelsea and Spain defender Marc Cucurella. The 27-year-old, who will finalise the move once his involvement at the 2026 World Cup comes to an end, had been on the radar of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but Los Blancos officials moved very quickly to secure an agreement.

Real Madrid will pay a fixed fee of €55m plus €5m in instalments for Cucurella, more than the €50m that was originally reported. Chelsea had wanted to retain the services of their star left-back, although they were swiftly convinced to do business with the Bernabeu club.

Marca have revealed how Cucurella’s signing for Real Madrid came about. Their interest was first reported hours before an agreement was reached with Chelsea, although the actual process started on Fridaywhen Jose Mourinho made it clear to the board that it was the Spain international or no one to be the club’s new left-back.

Those talks between Mourinho and the board took place on Friday morning, and by the afternoon, Real Madrid had presented their contract offer to Cucurella’s representatives. Talks continued on Saturday, at which point the Portuguese head coach called the player directly, telling him that he wanted him to join his squad. That moved things along, and personal terms were swiftly agreed upon.

And on Sunday, Real Madrid and Chelsea thrashed out a deal that will see a total package of €60m be paid for Cucurella’s services. Everything is agreed upon, with the plan being for the deal to be announced in the next few hours.

Cucurella is undoubtedly a top signing for Real Madrid. He’s widely considered to be one of the best left-backs in world football, and he will hope to hold on to that title at the Bernabeu.
