Real Madrid closely tracking 17-year-old Mexican jewel available for only €18 million – report | OneFootball

Earlier today, news of Real Madrid’s summer transfer plans confirmed that the club are maintaining a strict policy of spending primarily on young talents under the age of 20.

Further, the report confirmed that Real Madrid’s primary positions of interest were the centre-back and the central midfield – both departments that have plagued the squad this season.

Kees Smit, on that front, is said to appeal to Real Madrid’s administration, but Defensa Central now bring to light another young talent who fits both parameters – Gilberto Mora.

As one of Mexican football’s brightest young talents, Mora has been an option admired by Real Madrid’s hierarchy for a reasonable time now.

Still just 17 years of age, he currently plays for Club Tijuana and is expected to make a big-money move to Europe soon with several top clubs monitoring his situation.

Juni Calafat – Real Madrid’s head of scouting – is personally following the teenager’s situation and appreciates that Mora is available for just €18 million which is considered a budget sum for the club.

The player fits all the criteria Real Madrid are looking for and the club will thus continue to monitor his situation in the coming months. He is not seen as a priority, but continues to be an option valued by the club and personally dreams of the elusive move.

Mora primarily plays as a central and attacking midfielder and is capable of adapting himself to several roles – something Real Madrid highly values at this point in time.

In the 2025-26 Liga MX Apertura, Mora made 13 appearances for his team in which he had five goals and an assist. In 2026, he already has two appearances in the Liga MX Clausura and has averaged one key pass per game.
