Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has successfully undergone surgery performed by renowned traumatologist Manuel Leyes at the Olympia Centre in Madrid.
The defender underwent an operation to correct a stress fracture in the right tibia, an injury he had been carrying since January.
Following another setback earlier this week, surgery became necessary, with the club announcing that it has been successful, in an official statement.
“Our player Raúl Asencio underwent successful surgery today, performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes, to repair a stress fracture in his right tibia. The operation was supervised by the Real Madrid Medical Services,” the statement read.
“Asencio will begin his recovery process in the coming days.”
Now that the procedure has been completed successfully, according to MARCA, Asencio faces a recovery period of around four months.
Asencio had been one of the few defenders available to Jose Mourinho during the international break. However, he had yet to make his competitive debut for Real Madrid this season.

Having started the pre-season under the new manager, he suffered a muscular injury to the rectus femoris in his right leg in late July, which kept him out of the squad until 12 September, when he returned for the match against Rayo Vallecano.
He subsequently remained on the bench for Real Madrid’s last three matches without making an appearance. He will now begin a lengthy rehabilitation process.
A new episode of pain in the affected area of his right tibia was the decisive factor behind the decision to operate.
Surgery had already been under consideration since the end of last season. The plan was to use the summer break to allow Asencio to undergo the lengthy recovery process and finally resolve an injury that had been troubling him for months.

But, the defender persisted with conservative treament. However, with it not having the desired impact, it was decided that the Real Madrid academy graduate would go under the knife.
The operation was completed successfully today, and the defender now faces around four months away from competitive football.
As such, he is unlikely to play football again in 2026 and is only expected to return to action in the new year. The focus will now be on fully recovering and recuperating without risking any setbacks.
