Real Madrid have suffered a fresh double setback, with Arda Güler and Eder Militao both sustaining biceps femoris injuries that are set to keep them out for the run-in.
The club have not declared their seasons over, only that both face weeks out. Fabrizio Romano reports it would be impossible for them to feature again this season. Such injuries usually need at least three to four weeks’ rest and Real’s final game is in four weeks.
Güler has a right biceps femoris lesion, detected after he felt discomfort before a training session for Friday’s trip to Real Betis, kick-off 21:00. The Türkiye international had been building momentum under Álvaro Arbeloa, and this checks his World Cup preparation.
Militao suffered a left biceps femoris problem during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Deportivo Alavés, requesting a substitution before the interval. It follows a lay-off to the same muscle that sidelined him in December.
With six La Liga matches remaining, Arbeloa loses two important options as Real sit second, nine points behind Barça.
Their club seasons are very likely over, but both should be back for the next World Cup, scheduled 11 June to 19 July, with their national teams.
