Real Madrid are one of many clubs across the world to have been left devastated by the recent events in Venezuela. Almost 1500 people have died after 7.5 and 7.1 magnitude earthquakes struck in the capital city of Caracas, and many more have had their lives turned upside down after their homes were destroyed.
Having taken some time to reflect on the tragic events in Venezuela, Real Madrid have now confirmed in an official statement that they have launched a fundraising campaign to help those affected. As a club, they have donated €1m towards funding the Red Cross’ efforts in the South American country, while president Florentino Perez has also matched this figure.
“The Real Madrid Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign, in collaboration with the Red Cross, aimed at supporting those affected by the earthquakes suffered in Venezuela. Real Madrid has decided to support this campaign with the donation of €1m to help the victims and the families of the victims. Likewise, the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, will also collaborate with a donation of €1m. From Real Madrid we want to show all our support, affection and solidarity with the Venezuelan people in these difficult times.”
In their statement, Real Madrid also asked supporters to donate what they could to help those in need. They are seen to ensure that the Red Cross gets as much funding as possible to help as many people in Venezuela as possible, and the fact that the club has taken such an active role in the fundraising process is bound to inspire fans to make a contribution.
Real Madrid will continue to monitor things in Venezuela, as they hope that their contributions, and that of their supporters, make the desired impact for those affected.
