Real Madrid forward continues to gain Alonso’s trust following cameo vs Kairat Almaty | OneFootball

It was a turbulent summer for Rodrygo Goes, with constant speculations about his future at Real Madrid following the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager.

Despite all the noise, the 24-year-old forward opted to stay put at the Santiago Bernabeu and fight for his place, knowing that it will be anything but easy considering his form this year.

Rodrygo earning Alonso’s confidence

Alonso, for his part, always insisted that he had Rodrygo in his plans at Real Madrid and even decided to use the Brazilian in his preferred role on the left flank – meaning direct competition between him and his compatriot Vinicius Jr.

Now, according to MARCA, Rodrygo continues to gain ground and convince Alonso, with his following his impactful cameo against Kairat Almaty on Tuesday night.

Rodrygo replaced Vinicius in the 70th minute in Almaty and only lacked a goal to crown his performance. It is clear that his natural position is on the left wing, where he can both reach the byline and cut inside to shoot.

The Brazilian created an excellent move to beat his marker on the flank and delivered a cross that Eduardo Camavinga headed in for the fourth goal. Before that, he also played a key part in Kylian Mbappe’s third goal, involved in the build-up with Arda Guler.

Rodrygo also pushed hard to score himself. He tried two shots from the edge of the box and had time to set up another dangerous chance with a low cross across goal that went unconverted. He linked up particularly well with Mbappe between the lines.

Alonso congratulated the former Santos wonderkid after his 20-minute cameo against Kairat Almaty. The forward, much like Dani Ceballos in midfield, is starting to slowly convince the manager and gain his trust.
