Ancelotti was forced to name a makeshift defence in the first-leg
Real Madrid have been handed a huge double injury boost ahead of their Champions League decider against Manchester City.
Defenders Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba have returned to training and look set to be available for selection in Wednesday’s knockout phase playoff second leg.
Rudiger and Alaba missed the first-leg last week through injury as manager Carlo Ancelotti was forced to name a makeshift back four with Lucas Vazquez also sidelined.
Speaking after the win at the Etihad Stadium, Ancelotti sounded hopeful that the defensive pair would return for the second leg.
“We need Rudiger and Alaba for the return leg and I think they'll be available,” he told reporters. “It was a pretty surprising game and I didn't think the team would be so capable of showing that level of sacrifice at this stage."
Images of Rudiger and Alaba taking part in a Real Madrid training session have surfaced on social media over the weekend and Ancelotti will likely provide an update on the pair when he faces the media on Tuesday.
Despite twice trailing against Man City, the holders emerged victorious thanks to an injury time winner from Jude Bellingham which means they return to the Santiago Bernabeu with a 3-2 advantage.
Though, goalscorer, Brahim Diaz has already warned his teammates against complacency.
“This isn't over yet, we still have to play the second leg,” he added. “Of course, it's at home and it's a different story, that's much better. I'm really pleased with the win and how it came about. It was a really complete performance, I'm happy to have got the goal and to be able to help the team.
“I don't like to talk about justice. This is football, you can always play well and lose. I think we put on a very good display. It's never easy to come here, they're a pretty good side. We still have the second leg, our work isn't done yet.
“We capitalised on their mistakes and created a lot of chances. The team did a fantastic job, we competed really well against top opposition and we won it. This is Real Madrid, the greatest club in the world.”
