Real Madrid could head into their upcoming league trip to Valencia with a significantly reinforced squad, as several key defenders edge closer to a return.

According to a positive update from MARCA, the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ferland Mendy are all expected to be available if everything progresses as planned.

The timing could hardly be better for Alvaro Arbeloa, who has been dealing with defensive instability in recent weeks.

Real Madrid will travel to Mestalla knowing that solidity at the back will be crucial against a Valencia side that traditionally raises its level at home.

Much-needed returns

Among the potential returnees, Rudiger’s comeback stands out as particularly important.

This is because with Eder Militao ruled out until at least March, the German international is viewed as the most reliable option to anchor the defence.

Beyond his physical presence, Rudiger offers leadership and authority, qualities Arbeloa values highly both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Mendy’s possible return also provides a welcome balance.

While the Frenchman is not known for his attacking output, his defensive discipline has long been one of his strongest attributes.

In matches where control and positional awareness are vital, Mendy’s presence gives Real Madrid a level of security that few alternatives can match.

What about TAA?

The situation surrounding Alexander-Arnold, who has returned to training for a while now, is slightly more complex.

The England international’s start to life in Madrid was promising, with regular appearances early in the campaign, but injuries soon disrupted his rhythm.

As the season progressed, those physical setbacks prevented Alexander-Arnold from fully establishing himself. Now, his return comes with added pressure.

He is eager to accumulate minutes, aware that his place in Real Madrid’s plans, as well as in the England squad for the World Cup, depends heavily on staying fit and contributing consistently.

If all three players are included in the squad against Valencia, Arbeloa will finally have more experienced options at his disposal.
