With anticipation building ahead of the Madrid derby, former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has offered his insight on both teams and did not hesitate when asked about a potential signing from the rivals.

Guti was asked a direct question — which Atletico Madrid player would he bring to Real Madrid, and his answer was immediate and emphatic.

“I would sign Julian Alvarez because I think he’s a game-changer for big teams,” he stated, as per Mundo Deportivo.

More on Real Madrid

Beyond transfer talk, Guti also shared his thoughts on Real Madrid’s current setup and internal dynamics.

Discussing the influence within the dressing room, he pointed towards Alvaro Arbeloa, highlighting the positive changes brought about under his guidance.

“Arbeloa has found the right approach with the locker room”, and that “it’s had an impact.”

About the derby

Looking ahead to the derby itself, the former midfielder emphasised the unpredictability of such high-profile encounters.

He acknowledged the challenges Real Madrid have faced in recent meetings with their city rivals, adding further context to the importance of the fixture.

“A lot can happen because it’s a game where many players can make a difference. Madrid is struggling to beat Atletico, and the stakes are high for staying in the LaLiga race,” he added.

Champions League run

Guti also addressed Real Madrid’s performances in the Champions League, where the team has managed to exceed expectations despite difficult circumstances.

“It’s in their DNA: when things are really bad, the team stands tall for the crest they wear. No one believed they could make it through, and they’ve had a great run.”

Finally, the discussion turned to emerging talent, with Guti highlighting the impact of young midfielder Thiago Pitarch.

“He’s breathed new life into the team. He’s told the team that either you work hard or we’ll come up from the bottom to stay.

“He’s a very complete player, and let’s hope that when the injured players return, he continues to get playing time,” he concluded.
