Real Madrid secured their sixth win of the season in all competitions earlier today when they defeated RCD Espanyol 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Eder Militao and Kylian Mbappe scored two golazos to secure all three points at the Santiago Bernabeu, but once again, the post-game headlines appear to be surrounding superstar Vinicius Jr.

After being left out of the starting XI against Marseille on Tuesday, the Brazilian returned to the team today and had a good outing, even setting up Mbappe for the second goal.

Vinicius leaves angry after substitution

However, Xabi Alonso’s decision to substitute him in the 77th minute of the game did not sit down well Vinicius, reports MARCA.

Vinicius has yet to reach 80 minutes in a single match this season, a situation that has left him confused and very angry. The 24-year-old made this clear once again against Espanyol when Xabi Alonso informed him during the hydration break that he would be substituted.

The Brazilian could not believe it, as he had been more active and accurate than in previous matches.

Vinicius threw the bottle he had been drinking from, raised his arms, and upon being substituted went straight to the dressing room, although he later returned to watch the remainder of the game from the bench with his teammates.

The Brazilian winger is experiencing an unfamiliar period at Real Madrid. He has gone from playing every minute under Carlo Ancelotti to not completing a single match with Alonso.

Alonso on Vinicius’ reaction

Speaking to the media after the game, Alonso downplayed Vinicius’ reaction on being substituted, while also acknowledged that he might have taken off the megastar forward prematurely.

“He lacked goalscoring today. I thought bringing in players on the outside, as a substitute, would be good. He and Franco were good, but the game needed more control,” said Alonso.

“Maybe I substituted him when he was at his best, maybe I substituted him a little too early…,” he added.

“Franco also left angry. It happens to everyone. I’m happy with Vini and Franco’s performance. We needed a refresher because the season is so long.”

What is clear is that Vinicius is not entirely happy with his situation at Real Madrid at the moment, which could affect contract talks between the two parties.
