Real Madrid’s current situation can be attributed to a number of factors, but the clear result of all the instability is a poor version of the team showing up on the field.

The recent managerial change, internal dressing room politics and sense of entitlement within players are all creating issues for Los Blancos, all of which call for a new leader.

After all, it is clear that the current captains – Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde – are finding it hard to keep the squad grounded and focused – something the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric used to do.

Former player speaks

Speaking to the media in a recent interview, former Villarreal and Espanyol star, and Uruguayan international, Walter Pandiani, made a massive statement that he did not see Valverde to be a leader in the current Real Madrid setup.

“Madrid always needs a leader. They have Federico Valverde as captain and he is still the young man we saw many years ago,” he began.

Elaborating on how he felt Valverde was too young to be leading a dressing room without such massive names, the former Osasuna player said,

“I think he’s still too young to be a leader. I think they need someone else.”

Finally, he revealed what his ideal solution to the current situation would be, to which he called for the return of a club legend in Sergio Ramos.

“He [Ramos] is a great player, who works physically and who would have been an example. He could have helped Arbeloa. I would have called him.”
