Eduardo Camavinga is one of four Real Madrid players currently dealing with injuries and not available at the disposal of Xabi Alonso.

While Jude Bellingham’s training sessions yesterday were very encouraging, Real Madrid have been dealt with negative news regarding Camavinga’s fitness.

The Frenchman has been out of action since early August after spraining his ankle. It was believed that Camavinga was in the final phase of his recovery and would return soon.

Big blow for Camavinga

However, as per AS, Real Madrid have completely ruled out Camavinga’s potential return in the upcoming game against Real Sociedad.

During yesterday’s training session, the Frenchman performed a couple of ball exercises with the rest of the group, but his training was largely solo.

Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid see no reason to rush the midfielder back into action and have no intention to field him at Anoeta. This is in line with the club’s strategy of not rushing into the return of any of the four injured players.

The club are now trying to make sure that the midfielder will be available for action in the Champions League opener against Marseille on September 16.

Returning against Marseille would mark a special moment for Camavinga, who predominantly lived in the northern part of France and therefore, has a direct rivalry with Marseille, one of the biggest clubs in southern France.

Camavinga, for his part, is eager to return to action as soon as possible. He wants to know what Xabi Alonso has in store for him.

This is particularly important given the way previous manager, Carlo Ancelotti, had utilised Camavinga not only as a midfielder but also as a left-back.

While Xabi is unlikely to deploy Camavinga in defence, it will be interesting to see whether or not he counts him as a pivot midfielder or a direct competitor for Federico Valverde, in a more free-flowing role.
