Trai Hume has played down surprise links to Real Madrid after being asked about the speculation while on international duty.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are monitoring the Sunderland right-back among several right-sided options as low-cost cover, with a valuation around €22 million, roughly £19 million.
At a Northern Ireland press conference, Hume said he had seen the rumour but had not given it much thought. It looks unlikely at this stage.
He has been one of Sunderland’s most reliable performers under Régis Le Bris, playing in every league game last season as the Black Cats finished seventh in the Premier League.
He scored his first Premier League goal in the 4-3 defeat to Aston Villa. He then struck the opener in the 2-1 win against Chelsea at the Stadium of Light, a result that sealed the club’s first European qualification since the 1973-74 season.
Signed from Linfield in January 2022, he became a regular in 2022-23 and later agreed a long-term contract running to summer 2030.
