It is perhaps fair to say that Alvaro Arbeloa’s start to life as Real Madrid manager hasn’t been the smoothest ride.
The Spaniard started his tenure with a loss against Albacete that saw Real Madrid bow out of the Copa Del Rey. But since then, the team has delivered brilliantly.
Real Madrid have recently secured a one-goal lead over Benfica in the Champions League knockout playoff and are now also top of the table, having overtaken Barcelona in La Liga.
In fact, since taking over the reins at Real Madrid, the Spanish tactician has not lost a single La Liga match, guiding Los Blancos to a flawless start.
With five victories in his first five games, Arbeloa has instantly equalled the impressive early tenures of Jose Quirante (1929), Enrique Fernandez (1953), and Manuel Pellegrini (2009).
Only two managers in Real Madrid’s illustrious history sit ahead of him in this specific statistic. The first is his immediate predecessor, Xabi Alonso, who managed six consecutive wins earlier this very season.

The second is Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who strung together seven straight victories when he took over the Galacticos in early 2005.
Statistically, Arbeloa’s output directly rivals Luxemburgo’s historic run. In his first five matches, the Brazilian’s squad scored 13 goals and conceded three, achieving a goal difference of +10.
Arbeloa’s side has matched that exact goal difference, scoring 12 and conceding just two. Alonso, while slightly more conservative with eight goals scored, had been the most defensively solid.
The path to history is now clearly defined. A victory this Saturday at El Sadar against Osasuna will see Arbeloa equal Alonso’s tally.
If he secures another three points against Getafe in the subsequent fixture, he will officially match Luxemburgo’s long-standing record. Just six points currently separate Arbeloa from writing his name into Real Madrid history.
