Noticias de Navarra reports that Real Madrid will not activate their buy-back clause for Sunderland-linked winger Victor Muñoz this summer, citing strong competition for his preferred left-wing berth.
Sunderland made multiple approaches for the 22-year-old in January, with an initial £17 million offer rejected before an improved bid of around £21 million was also turned down.
Osasuna are said to value him at £34 million, the release clause in his deal, and are unwilling to compromise given 50% of any sale would go to Real Madrid.
A Real academy graduate who joined Osasuna last summer, Muñoz has largely featured on the left and has delivered five goals and four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
Sporting director Braulio Vázquez has explained that bids were ignored and the club stuck to the clause, adding that Muñoz is grateful for the faith shown. He said they signed him from the Primera RFEF after only 40 La Liga minutes for €five million, and that neither side is considering an immediate exit.
