Manchester City will reportedly be faced with the chance of recruiting two Real Madrid stars plus cash in exchange for Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
The Spaniard has become one of the most indispensable players in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City system, regularly delivering match-controlling and winning performances in the heart of midfield.
His influence over recent seasons, including decisive goals most notably in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final, has propelled him into global superstardom, culminating in a Ballon d’Or success last Autumn and universal acclaim as the best defensive midfielder in the game.
Despite City’s emergence as a dominant force, speculation surrounding key figures is never far away. With Pep Guardiola’s long-term vision evolving and clubs like Real Madrid preparing transitions of their own, the Spanish capital has been mooted as a possible future destination for Rodri in recent months, particularly as they plan for life after Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos.
City, however, have remained publicly and privately consistent in their stance. Rodri is viewed as untouchable, central to the present and future of the team, and the Etihad Stadium hierarchy are in no mood to entertain bids for the 29-year-old.
Nevertheless, according to the information of CaughtOffside, Real Madrid have considered a blockbuster offer consisting of both Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga plus €40 million in order to tempt Manchester City into negotiations over Rodri.
However, it is stressed that City remain firm in their stance over the Spaniard, refusing to part with one of their best players and preparing to offer the Ballon d’Or winner a contract extension until the end of the 2029/30 season.
It is claimed that with Rodri’s current deal running until 2027, Real Madrid believe waiting until next summer could open more realistic possibilities regarding the midfielder, and should the player not renew, his price could drop to €60 million to €80 million in 2026.
Madrid’s interest, while ambitious, highlights the increasing value being placed on long-term squad building, with Florentino Pérez historically favouring big-name signings to maintain global commercial appeal.
The reported inclusion of both Rodrygo and Camavinga – two players previously viewed as untouchable by Madrid themselves – perhaps underlines just how highly Rodri is rated at the Santiago Bernabéu.
From Manchester City’s perspective, even an offer of this magnitude is unlikely to cause serious disruption to plans. Rodri is not only seen as a vital on-field asset but also a leader off the pitch, and internal talks are progressing around a renewal that would take him well into his 30s.
The player himself has made no public suggestion of wanting to leave Manchester, and his bond with manager Pep Guardiola may prove critical in fending off external suitors.
Looking ahead, Real Madrid may bide their time and wait to see how Rodri responds to the contract proposal, with hopes that the passage of time and any changes in Manchester City’s sporting project could offer a window of opportunity. However, unless the midfielder signals a desire for a new challenge, any future bids are likely to be swiftly rejected.
